Enclosure No. 2.

Copy.

See Encl. No. 1.

Owing to the excessive cost entailed in the

formation of proposed new road as already approved, the

whole of the work being heavy rock cutting of considerable height; it has been considered advisable to revert to

the original line of Road between Quarry Bay Marine Lot

No.4 and Quarry Bay Inland Lot No.4.

Messrs. Butterfield and Swire have agreed to

surrender the area coloured blue on plan herewith, for

the area coloured red and area edged green on plan.

Messrs. Butterfield and Swire are the lessees of the

property to the North of Tai Kat Street, they are also

the lessees of the property S.E. of this Road extending

to Tai On Street. All the lateral streets between these

lots except Tai Hong Street are the property of the

lessees and they are very anxious to acquire the area

coloured red on plan to be utilized in connection with

Shaukiwan Marine Lot No.1, Shaukiwan Inland Lot 408 and

Shaukiwan Marine Lot No.2.

There is no objection to the proposal it is

of no material benefit to Government to retain Tai Kat

Street as it is chiefly a benefit to the lessees, and

access to Sea front is available through Tai Hong

Street.

The Company were offered an extension to both Quarry Bay Inland Lot No.4 and Quarry Bay Marine Lot No.4, but would not consider the proposition.

The terms now proposed and accepted by the

Company are as follows:-

(1) Quarry Bay Marine Lot No.4 to be subject to terms

as approved in Colonial Office Despatch No.185
